Cotinine Blood Test
This tests for the presence of COTININE in the blood.
Cotinine is one of the substances that is produced by the body when it breaks down nicotine. It is therefore used as a test to find out if someone has been smoking. Cotinine can stay in the blood for up to 2 weeks and in the urine for several weeks more. How long cotinine stays in the body depends on much the person has been smoking, their body size and composition, and if they take medication or have health issues so it is very variable.
There is no need for an appointment to do this cotinine test. After ordering it, you will receive a confirmation message with a map and directions attached. You can then go to Patient Reception at The Doctors Laboratory to give the sample. The laboratory is open 7am – 7pm weekdays and 7am-1pm on Saturdays.
You are required to bring a valid photo ID with you at the of the test such as a passport or driving license.
Results Take: 2 working days *. They include a doctor's explanation of the meaning of the results.
Cotinine blood test results will be e-mailed to you when completed.
